Prayer Points for Nepal

by World Vision Church Team on April 27, 2015

A magnitude 7.8 earthquake shook Nepal on Saturday, killing more than 5,000 people and causing widespread destruction. The powerful temblor toppled buildings and houses and triggered avalanches in the Himalayas. As Scripture instructs us to share in the joys and sorrows of others, today, we lift up the people of Nepal who have suffered great losses as a result of the earthquake.

Pray for families who are grieving and have lost loved ones
Nepal's earthquake was the worst to hit the poor South Asian nation in more than 80 years. Across Nepal, residents fled their homes and buildings in panic. Walls and buildings tumbled, power lines crashed, and streets and walls cracked open. Aftershocks continue to jolt the nation. The death toll is expected to rise as reports come in from remote areas.

Lord Jesus, we weep with families who have lost everything to the earthquake’s destruction. Comfort the hearts of those who are grieving great personal loss.

Lord, You know that families have lost loved ones are experiencing deep grief. Be with the hurting families, Lord, let them know Your peace that surpasses understanding. Help calm children’s spirits, and let them know You are near.

Pray for children and families facing difficult conditions
Tens of thousands of people are are staying in the open for safety. Temperatures are frigid and they lack basic necessities. “It's freezing outside, especially at night. I can't imagine how children and families are going sleep tonight. They need blankets and shelter,“ says Rosalyn Lorin, a child protection specialist with World Vision.

Lord, even as emergency personnel and search and rescue teams are on the way, we ask Your help in reaching those who are in desperate need of aid. Restore communication to far flung places. Guide humanitarian workers to communities and families that were hardest hit so they are provided shelter and warmth. May supplies available be more than enough to restore the basics of food, clean water, shelter, and household items for families in need.

Pray for humanitarian workers
In the next days, weeks, and months, aid workers will be stretched thin responding to the vast needs of many people in Nepal. Agencies like World Vision are already on the ground, but efforts among them must be coordinated so the efficient use of manpower, expertise, resources, and supplies have the maximum benefit.

Father God, we thank You for the many people of goodwill who were already at work to improve lives in Nepal. Help aid agencies coordinate their work so no effort is duplicated or resource wasted. Strengthen all humanitarian workers for the long hours of relief and recovery work ahead. Let them not become weary or overburdened.

We need your church's help to get supplies to those suffering. Donate Today.
