8 Ways hosting a Global 6K will help your church

The Global 6K for Water is a global movement on May 19th, where hundreds of churches around the world will be hosting tens of thousands of runners and walkers at their church to walk an average distance for an extraordinary cause. It’s an event that will help your church reach your community and make more engaged disciples.

Here’s just one story of how one pastor saw life-change at his church through the Global 6k for Water.

Pastor Josh Fierra from Gilroy Presbyterian launched the Global 6K at his church in 2015. Josh rallied his church during weekend services to get engaged, and the congregation reached out to their community to bring new people to their church. Through this effort, they raised nearly $10,000 for clean water!

Here are 8 ways hosting a Global 6K for Water can help your church:

  1. It’s an event for families: Almost everyone of all ages can run, walk, or roll 6 kilometers.
  2. It will teach compassion: 6 kilometers is the average distance in that people in the developing world walk for water – water that is often contaminated with life-threatening diseases. You’ll sacrifice your time to walk in solidarity.
  3. It will help you reach your community: Churches have found that it’s pretty easy to ask your community to join you for a walk that benefits a good cause. People want to help!
  4. You can connect with local media: Getting out into the community and doing something different is always an opportunity for your church to get local media coverage.  As part of the free Global 6K host launch packet, we’ll give you ideas on how to reach out to your local media.
  5. Your congregation will live out Matthew 25: Families in your church will be spending their Saturday answering Jesus’ call, “for I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink.” People love being a part of something greater than themselves, and this is the perfect opportunity.
  6. It will empower volunteer leaders: This is an easy event for volunteer leaders to host. Give them a leadership opportunity through the 6k.
  7. It will help your church connect with the running community: In 2015, there were 7,643,600 runners in the US that finished a 5K. These people who love to join together to run and are always looking for creative races to join.
  8. It’s a great way to invite people to church: Invite them to the Global 6K on May 6th, which is a Saturday, and then invite them to join you at a service on Sunday to celebrate what they’ve accomplished.
